Acura Precision concept bound for Detroit auto show

Honda’s luxury arm Acura will use the 2016 Detroit auto show to unveil a sharp new concept, dubbed Precision.

Acura says the new show car will preview the next stage in its evolving brand styling, informing the look of its future offerings.

Dave Marek, creative director for Acura, said that the concept is named for the company’s new ‘precision crafted performance’ strategy, which he says will signal a “stronger and sharper focus” on styling in the future.

“It is our intention to more strongly express performance through design and the Acura Precision Concept will serve as the inspiration for the styling and proportion of the next-generation of Acura vehicles, especially for our sedans.”

The company has released a teaser sketch of its new concept (above), revealing a four-door coupe design with muscular yet sporting proportions.

The concept’s sharp styling hints at a more premium look than ever, building on the sharp lines of the new NSX, while leaping ahead of the awkward styling featured across the brand’s current passenger line-up.

Today’s teaser follows confirmation of plans for a styling makeover, with Marek telling US magazine Car & Driver that Honda management had charged him with rediscovering the nearly 30 year-old Acura brand’s mojo.

As always, we shouldn’t expect to see the Acura brand in Australia. Despite its status as the oldest of Japan’s luxury marques, it remains focused primarily on the North American market.

Watch for the Precision concept to make its official debut in Detroit next month.
