Despite the alphabetic growth of AMG, F, M, N, RS and SVO performance sub-brands, Mazda will not be adding another letter to their lineup
At this weekâs 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, CarAdvice spoke with Masamichi Kogai, president and CEO of Mazda Corporation, who again confirmed that MPS fans will continue to go without for the foreseeable future.
Kogai-san said that Mazdaâs policy is centered around technology and innovation and that the performance and enjoyment of driving is included as part of the inherent development in all Mazda vehicles.
âThere is no need for the MPS or MazdaSpeed sub-brand, as all [Mazda] models provide driving enjoyment,â he said.
He added that, although it fits, Mazda has no plans to slot the new 2016 CX-9âs SkyActivG 2.5T motor (above) into the CX-5, Mazda 3 or Mazda 6.
This policy extends to the suggestion that Mazda could revisit the concept of a separate luxury brand, like those of its Asian rivals: Toyotaâs Lexus, Nissanâs Infiniti and, most recently, Hyundaiâs Genesis.
Kogai san says that any other brands or model lines are a distraction to the ongoing improvement of the Mazda brand and line-up, which still stands firm on a philosophy of exceptional products at affordable prices.
