Alfa Romeo Giulia engine options listed in leaked document

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia will hit the world’s markets with up to five petrol engines and three diesel options, if data published on an enthusiast website this week proves accurate.

So far, the Giulia has been revealed in just one top-shelf performance form: the BMW M3-rivalling Giulia Quadrifoglio, confirmed with a high-powered turbo petrol V6.

Now, according to enthusiast site Alfa Romeo Project 952, an allegedly official document may have revealed the wider spread of engine options that buyers of lower-spec Giulia models can expect in 2016.

The document details engine outputs (although not torque figures), along with transmission and drive layouts.

The list kicks off with an entry-level 110kW 2.2-litre JTDM diesel-engined model, matched to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and a rear-wheel drive layout.

Further into the diesel range are a pair of 132kW and 154kW versions of the same engine, with the latter available in all-wheel drive.

On petrol side of the ledger is the 2.0-litre ‘GME’ (Global Medium Engine) T4, listing outputs of 147kW, 184kW and 206kW. Each will be offered in automatic form only, with all-wheel drive available as an option.

The hero Quadrifolio model has already been confirmed with a 370kW 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, but this list also suggests that the automatic version of the hot Q car will be restricted to a slightly lower 360kW.

The Giulia is expected to make its market debut late next year, suggesting an Australian launch will not occur until sometime in 2017.
