The third bodystyle in the new 2016 Honda Civic range has been revealed today, with the all-new coupe variant making its Los Angeles Auto Show debut.
The new modelâs unveiling follows the appearance of the new Civic sedan in September. And, while the hatch variant is still to be revealed, it was recently spied in hotted-up Type R form at the Nurburgring.
This debut also marks the final transformation of Mayâs Civic Coupe Concept, which was largely identical to the production car revealed today â" albeit decked out in a muscular body-kit, larger wheels and a lower ride height. (A preview of a second Type R variant to join the coming hatch model?)
The Civic coupe has generally been kept from Australian showrooms, with the two-door variants of the family traditionally focused on the US market. This new model is likely to be no exception.
In the US, the Civic Coupe will be offered with a 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine offering 117kW and 187Nm of torque, while higher-spec models will get a 130kW/219Nm 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. Performance figures have not been offered, but they would be far from blistering.
If a Type R version were to be introduced, it would likely be powered by the same 231kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged engine offered in the current Type R hatch â" now ruled out for Australia â" and a power boost can likely be expected.
While Australia will miss out on the new Civic coupe, local buyers can expect to see the sedan and hatch models next year, with the spied next-generation Type R hatch to follow.
