Mercedes-Maybach S600 debuts at 2015 Motorclassica exhibition

For the third year in a row, Mercedes-Benz has used the Motorclassica Exhibition in Melbourne to unveil a new car.

In 2013 it was the S-Class saloon, and the S-Class coupe debuted in 2014. This year, Mercedes will not only reveal a new model, but a new nameplate for Australia.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 limousine marks a return for the Maybach name (which although Mercedes-owned was sold as an individual brand up until 2010) and a further development of Mercedes’ new naming convention that sees sporting models under the Mercedes-AMG name, and now luxury models under Mercedes-Maybach.

Powered by a 390kW / 830Nm twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12, the Maybach S600 is 200mm longer (5453mm) than the longest S-Class.

All that extra space is between the wheels, as at 3365mm, you could fit a Smart car between the Maybach’s arches.

For lucky occupants, the Maybach S600 is officially the world’s quietest production car (for rear passengers) and features a level of luxury above even the best ‘standard’ Mercedes-Benz on the market.

Priced from $448,610 (plus options and on road costs), the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 is about half the price of the original 2004 Maybach 57 â€" but can be personalised and customised to suit the owner’s exacting specification (which will no doubt see that price rise).

As well as the Maybach, Mercedes-Benz will use the Motorclassica Event to showcase a special edition “Mille Miglia 417′ SL-Class roadster as well as a 1967 600 Grosser limousine, S500 Coupe, G63 AMG and the new Mercedes-AMG GTS.
