The updated 2016 Range Rover Evoque becomes the most efficient Land Rover ever with the introduction of the new Ingenium engine into the model range.
This new diesel powerplant is the same engine already in use with the Jaguar XE and XF models, which launched earlier this year. Itâs an all-new engine with advanced lightweight construction that was designed and built entirely in house at the companyâs £550 million manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton in the UK.
Jaguar Land Rover claims the Ingenium engine is a world class package of performance, refinement and efficiency. Some of the technologies used to enhance performance include the latest-generation Bosch common-rail fuel injection system and electronically-controlled variable-nozzle turbocharger.
Refinement comes from a super-stiff aluminium structure, encompassing cylinder block and head.
Efficiency is achieved through the use of a number of friction-reducing technologies such as camshafts mounted in roller bearings and electronically controlled oil and coolant pumps â" meaning they are always optimised for flow rate and pressure. The cylinder bore is also offset by 12mm from the line of the crankshaft to reduce piston friction.
The new cutting-edge EU6-compliant four-cylinder TD4 engine is also 20-30kg lighter than its 2.2L predecessor and is available with two power outputs and class-leading efficiency: 110kW/380Nm claims fuel economy of 4.3L/100km and CO2 emissions of 125g/km, while the more potent 132kW/430Nm (from 1500rpm) tune delivers 4.5L/100km and CO2 emissions of 134g/km.
However, the most efficient model (eD4) designated as an E-Capability variant claims just 3.9L/100km and 113g/km in front-wheel drive guise with a six-speed manual transmission.
Unfortunately, Land Rover Discovery Sport buyers in Australia will have to wait another 12 months for the new Ingenium engine to find its way under the bonnet of their SUVs, meaning the model will continue to be offered with the 2.2-litre diesel until November 2016.

CarAdvice is currently in the UK to drive the updated Range Rover Evoque and will post a review later this week.
The Evoque has definitely been turning heads let me tell you that! I'm getting a lot of interest here based on the number of people who are asking for car financing quotes for the vehicle!
