Thanks to our spy photographers, we have our best look yet at the next-generation Porsche Panamera, which was recently spotted near the Nurburgring.
As the second-generation Panamera nears its full debut and the beginning of production, Porsche has removed some of the camouflage and testing equipment seen on earlier prototypes.
There are still coverups obscuring the front fender vent and rear quarter window, as well as printouts hiding the graphics that will be used on the car’s headlights and tail-lights. Despite their presence, we can tell that the new car will feature the heavy use of LEDs at both ends.
What’s been clear since the first spy photos of the new Panamera began surfacing is that the second-generation car will feature less bulbous styling, especially around the rear.
As Michael Mauer, Porsche’s design chief, told CarAdvice the new Panamera “will look betterâ€, sacrificing rear seat headroom for a faster roofline.
Under the skin, the new Panamera will be the first car to make use of the Volkswagen Group’s MSB component matrix for front-engine, rear- and all-wheel drive cars.
As with all the latest automotive platforms, MSB will use a mixture of high-strength steel and other lightweight materials to reduce weight, improve performance and increase fuel economy.
The new Panamera will likely be offered with V6 and V8 petrol engine options, a V6 turbo-diesel, and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Expect a debut for the new Panamera some time in 2016.
