Last week, just days from its official launch, a couple spotted and filmed a Tesla Model X in action.
The video above was shot by YouTube user Susan Le, and seems to have been filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you have no great desire to see the driver stalking the Model X around a car park, skip forward to around the 26 second mark to see the electric SUV’s “falcon wing†doors in action.
At the beginning of the month, the first concrete specifications about the Model X spilled onto the internet thanks to leaked screenshots from an online configurator tool.
The tool revealed details about the top-shelf Signature Series that’s being offered to enthusiasts willing to pony up a US$40,000 ($57,000) deposit.
Signature Series variants of the Model X feature an all-wheel drive system consisting of a 193kW motor for the front wheels and a 375kW motor for the rear axle. That’s good enough for a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
If that’s not quick enough, buyers can opt for the US$10,000 ($14,200) Ludicrous Mode package that reduces the Model X’s 0-60mph time to 3.2 seconds, and gives the SUV a quarter mile (400m) time of 11.7 seconds.
Power for the Model X Signature Series is stored in a 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and the car is said to have an official range estimate of 368km.
