The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will cost $99,000 plus on-road costs when it arrives in Australian showrooms in November.
The price tag makes the new convertible $10K more expensive than the 4C coupe that has been on sale since February.
The 4C Spider’s party piece is its removable soft-top roof, which can be stored in in a specially designed storage bag in the luggage compartment when not in use.
Alfa’s engineers have managed to keep the Spider’s weigh to 1035 kilograms, making it just 10kg heavier than the 4C coupe.
Beneath the roof is a specially contoured aluminium roll bar that provides mounting points for the new rear deck lid, while unique upper body brackets and a high-strength steel engine compartment crossbeam are said to maximise the Spider’s torsional rigidity.
There’s no difference in straight-line performance between the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and its coupe sibling, with both launching from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 256km/h.
Behind the driver sits Alfa’s turbocharged direct-injection 1.75-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 177kW of power at 6000rpm and 350Nm of torque between 2200-4250rpm. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddleshifters sends drive to the rear wheels.
As with the coupe, the 4C Spider comes with the brand’s DNA selector with four driving modes: Dynamic, Natural, All Weather, and Race.
A 7.0-inch colour touchscreen is one of few creature comforts inside the cabin, while a new Carbon Fibre package is available for an added touch of exclusivity.
