V8 Supercar racers Garth Tander and Warren Luff have unveiled the new Star Wars-themed Commodore theyâll use in their assault on the 2015 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.
The unveiling follows news last month that Holden and Disney â" which bought Lucasfilm, the studio behind the Star Wars franchise, in 2012 â" had teamed up to promote the coming The Force Awakens film.
The duoâs blacked-out new livery is inspired by the The Force Awakensâ Empire-replacing First Order, with a new-design Stormtrooper on one side and lightsaber-wielding antagonist Kylo Ren on the other.
To take victory in the âGreat Raceâ next month, Tander and Luff will be hoping their aim is better than the average stormtrooperâs. And, with their 2014 car destroyed in a practice session, the pair will be hoping Kylo Renâs connection with the Force is strong this year.
Tander is no stranger to victory at âThe Mountainâ, however, with 1st-place finishes in 2000, 2009 and 2011.
âHRT is the most successful team ever at Mt Panorama and to carry the iconic film franchise on the car is extra incentive to add another Bathurst win to my tally,â Tander said at todayâs unveiling.
âThis is one battle I want the dark side to win.â
The Star Wars-liveried Commodore will make its debut when Bathurst 1000 practice gets underway on October 8. The event will cover the October 8-11 weekend.
