Nissan will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) title with a special new livery for the 2015 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Replicating the warpaint worn by Jim Richardsâ HR31 Skyline, the new liveryâs debut builds on the heritage design featured last year in honour of a pole-position start 30 years ago for the Bluebird Turbo.
âWe were really pleased with the reaction to the Bluebird âretroâ livery that we campaigned at last yearâs Bathurst 1000 and we are confident that the fans will be just as excited to see the Skyline colours return to Mount Panorama this year,â Nissan Australia managing director and CEO, Richard Emery, said.
âJim Richardsâ 1990 ATCC title was the start of a dominant era for Nissan in Australian motorsport. Itâs fitting that 25 years later we salute Jim. He not only won Nissan our first ATCC crown, he is truly a legend of Australian motorsport,â he said.
âItâs fantastic to see the affection that Jim still holds for the Skyline, so much so that he has bought the car and is racing it again. The GT-R R32 gets a lot of attention, even to this day, but the achievements of the Skyline HR31 should not be forgotten.â
Next month, 25 years since Richards won the 1990 championship, drivers Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore will attempt to better the second-place finish of James Moffat and Taz Douglas at the 2014 Bathurst 1000.
The duo will do battle on the mountain with a full spread of Holden, Ford, Volvo and AMG rivals, including the recently revealed Star Wars-inspired HRT Commodore.
The retro Altima will make its debut when Bathurst 1000 practice gets underway on October 8. The event will cover the October 8-11 weekend.
