The new Renault Talisman wagon has been revealed ahead of its full public unveiling at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show.
Renault says that the new Talisman wagon offers 572 litres of storage up to the line of the parcel shelf, which is actually 36L less than the sedan. With the rear seats folded down, though, the wagon’s total luggage capacity grows to 1700 litres.
The Talisman wagon shares the same dimensions â€" length of 4.86 metres, 1.87m width, 1.46m height and a wheelbase of 2.81m â€" as the sedan, so all the extra storage space comes courtesy of the longer, flatter roof line and the upright tailgate.
According to Renault, the D-segment accounts for around one million sales across Europe annually and that wagons are responsible for around 54 percent of that number.
As with the sedan, the new Talisman wagon is built upon the Renault-Nissan Common Module Family (CMF) that’s currently used underneath the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar and Espace, amongst others.
Tech available in the Talisman includes LED headlights, active dampers, four-wheel steering, up to four selectable driving modes, digital instrument display, colour head-up screen, semi-autonomous parking, and an infotainment system with a capacitive touchscreen in either 7.0-inch landscape or 8.7-inch landscape formats.
A variety of drivetrains will be available in the Talisman range, including turbo-diesels ranging from a 81kW 1.4-litre through to a 118kW twin-turbo 1.6-litre. 110kW and 147kW petrol engines are also available. Depending on the motor, the Talisman can be equipped with either a six-speed manual, or six- or seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions.
The new Talisman will go on sale throughout Europe during the first half of 2016, but it has already been confirmed that the new Renault sedan won’t be coming to Australia.
Emily Fadeyev told Car Advice earlier this year that once the latest shipment of Latitude sedans is sold out, Renault Australia will exit the mid-size sedan market.
