Nissanâs luxury marque has revealed that the next-generation Infiniti Q60 will go on sale in the US from mid-2016.
According to the brand, the new Q60 coupe will be based on the Q60 Concept (above and below), which made its debut at the Detroit motor show at the beginning of this year. Sales of the new car will begin the USA from around June 2016.
Itâs not yet clear when the Q60 coupe will be available in Australia, but when it does head into local showrooms, it will do battle with the BMW 4 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe, Audi A5 and Lexus RC.
Infiniti has yet to outline the drivetrains it will offer in the new coupe, but it seems likely that most options will be shared with the Q50 sedan. As with the current coupe, the new Q60 is based on the companyâs mainstream rear-wheel drive sedan, in this case the Q50.
Currently Australia-bound Q50 sedans are powered by either a 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a 125kW/400Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, or a 268kW/546Nm hybrid with a V6 petrol motor at its core.
In other markets, the Q50 is also available with a 245kW 3.7-litre V6, as well as the option of all-wheel drive.
The Q60 Concept featured a twin-turbo direct-injection 3.0-litre V6 with around 336kW of power, and this motor is said to be a preview of a new range of engines coming to the marque.
At present, the Q60 range is available solely with a 235kW/360Nm 3.7-litre V6 with a seven-speed automatic tied to the rear wheels. The current Q60 coupe and convertible were launched in Australia in 2012, back when the vehicle was known as the G.
As with other models in the Infiniti lineup, the Q60, and its G coupe and convertible predecessors, has been a slow seller with just 69 finding new homes in 2014. Thatâs well behind the 642 Audi A5s, 1851 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and 2201 BMW 4 Series two-doors sold last year.
