The Citroen C4 Cactus will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of next year, with petrol and diesel drivetrain options both priced beneath $30,000 plus on-road costs.
Kicking off the C4 Cactus range will be an 81kW/205Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol model with a five-speed manual transmission, while the range-topping model will get a 68kW/230Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel model paired with a six-speed semi-automatic transmission.
The petrol manual is tipped to start at around $25,000, while the diesel auto should slot in just below $30,000.
Both drivetrains feature stop-start engine technology, and with an overseas combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 3.6 litres per 100 kilometres, the diesel model could potentially become the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid/non-electric vehicle available in Australia.
Citroen says final pricing and specification details will be announced, following the completion of local testing and evaluation, closer to the C4 Cactusâs Q1 launch.
The C4 Cactus will also come with a back seat designed specifically for our market.
Australian-spec C4 Cactus SUVs will be the only ones in the world with a 60:40 split-fold rear seat instead of the folding bench offered in all other markets.
While being more practical, the rear-seat redesign was primarily prompted by the need for the C4 Cactus to comply with Australian regulations for the fitment of child seats.
Overseas, the Citroen C4 Cactus features only two ISOFIX points on the outboard rear seats. Its lack of top-tether anchor points and centre child restraint points precluded it from being approved for local sale.
As a result, Citroen Australia worked with PSA head office in France to develop a factory solution to the specification issue.
Citroen Australia managing director John Startari said the local specification demonstrated the parent companyâs commitment to the local market.
âWe were devastated when we realised that the specification would preclude the C4 Cactus from being sold in Australia,â Startari said.
âUpon discussing the issue with engineers and designers, they realised the unique requirements Australia presented also offered the opportunity to increase the utility and practicality of the C4 Cactus and commenced development of a split-fold rear seat.
âWe are thrilled we have been able to engineer a factory-based solution for such an important and ground-breaking vehicle.
âThis specification, along with local evaluation of specification and features, will be pivotal in ensuring we offer the best possible product to Australian customers.â
