The new, 2016 Kia Sportage has been snapped sans disguise about a month out from its official world premiere at the Frankfurt motor show.
The rear-view image â" posted on WorldCarFans after being captured by a reader â" comes a day after Kia officially released a trio of radicalised teaser images.
Kiaâs (almost certainly larger) Sportage mid-sized SUV contender appears to sport a softer, rounder and evolutionary take on the current modelâs design, with a lower beltline. The chrome accents point to this being a top-spec version, likely a Platinum.
We canât see the front here, though yesterdayâs teasers hint at some Porsche Macan-esque raised headlights flanking a prominent âtiger noseâ grille.
The teasers also showed us yesterday to expect a cabin that shifts some way upmarket, and draws inspiration from the new Carnival, Sorento and Optima models.
A large display will dominate the centre of the dash, flanked by air-conditioning vents on either side and a clean series of switches and dials below. Expect the latest in in-car connectivity just like its Hyundai Tucson sister, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It is understood the new model will share much of its architecture and mechanical package with Hyundaiâs newly-launched Tucson mid-sizer.
Likely engines include a 121W/203Nm 2.0 atmo petrol with six-speed manual or auto transmissions, a 130kW/265Nm 1.6 T-GDi turbo-petrol with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch auto and a 136kW/400Nm 2.0 R-Series diesel. Front-drive and AWD will be offered.
Watch for the new Sportage to make its global debut in Frankfurt next month, with Australian sales likely to begin early in 2016.
