Citroenâs luxury offshoot DS will soon launch a small new SUV offering, as these leaked images of the 2016 DS4 Crossback reveal.
Surfacing in the European press this week alongside images of the newly facelifted DS4 hatch, the DS4 Crossback will join the larger 6WR as the second SUV in the growing DS family.
Unlike the China-only 6WR, however, the DS4 Crossback has been developed with a view to a wider global launch.
That strategy will give the fledgling luxury marque a rival to key players in the premium small SUV market that include the new BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
As expected, the Crossback is essentially a slightly taller version of the already high-riding DS4 hatch, with roof rails and additional cladding making up the bulk of the changes visible in these shots.
But, as with the DS4, the Crossback also wears the companyâs new chevron-free grille design, introduced to help the DS brand cut the apron strings of its Citroen parent.
An official unveiling for the new Crossback and the facelifted DS4 is still to be confirmed, but donât be surprised to see both show up at next monthâs Frankfurt motor show.

An Australian debut is likewise still to be confirmed. Speaking with CarAdvice today, Peugeot Australia communications manager Tyson Bowen confirmed that any opportunity to have the Crossback in Australia âwould certainly be consideredâ. But, for now, there are no confirmed plans for a local debut.
