Toyota Australia has announced it is extending its recall over the Takata airbag problem for its Yaris and Avensis Verso models.
A statement from Toyota Australia said the company is âextending the range of vehicles involved in the passenger side front airbag safety recall that was previously announced on certain vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflatorsâ.
The recall isnât confined to Australia â" Reuters reports that worldwide there are 2.86 million vehicles across 24 model lines that are included in this recall, all of which are produced between April 2003 and December 2008.
The Japanese company had previously announced it was recalling Yaris models built from August 2005 to March 2007 in Australia, but that recall has now blown out to cover vehicles built between April 2003 and December 2008.
Likewise, Toyota had recalled Avensis models built from May 2003 to March 2007, but the breadth of dates affected for that model has increased from April 2003 to December 2008.
This action is further to a previous recall for the problem for vehicles built between 2001 and 2003.
Thereâs no exact figure on how many Yaris and Avensis Verso models have been hit by this latest recall notice, but the company insists there âhave been no confirmed incidents or injuries reported to Toyota Australia as a result of this conditionâ.
