At the Concorso dâEleganza Villa dâEste, the Bavarian company has revealed its BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage.
As its name implies, this concept car is a tribute to the 3.0 CSL coupe from the 1970s. The car unveiled on the shores of Lake Como in Italy features wide wheel arches and a tall rear spoiler.
Although the new car sports softer lines than the original, it does wear the shade of yellow. In both the original and the homage, the CSL stands for CoupeÌ Sport Leichtbau or Coupe Sport Lightweight.
Thanks to Plexiglass windows, removed equipment and aluminium panels (bonnet, boot and fenders), the original vehicle was around 200 kilograms lighter than the 3.0 CS that it was based on.
The modern reinterpretation uses plenty of carbonfibre and carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), with the latter exposed and visible wherever its used.
Behind the tall-for-a-modern-BMW kidney grille resides an in-line six-cylinder engine. The company has not quoted any displacement, power, torque, performance or fuel economy figures for this motor, but itâs said to be aided by an eBoost system, which is also not detailed.
Down-the-road lighting comes courtesy of a set of laser headlights, which feature X marks in the middle, just like many CSL race cars.
The Hommageâs interior is constructed primarily out of CFRP. The wraparound piece of wood on the upper portion of the dash is said to be a structural element, as well as a reminder of the copious quantities of wood used in the original CSL.
