Range Rover Sport HST will headline revised 2016 lineup

The new Range Rover Sport HST is the headline act of the revised 2016 model year Range Rover Sport lineup, which will make its public debut at the 2015 New York auto show.

Powered by a more powerful 280kW version of the company’s 3.0-litre supercharged V6, the new Sport HST has been designed to sit between the existing 250kW iteration of the 3.0-litre supercharged motor and the more powerful supercharged V8 models.

Dark is the overriding stylistic theme employed by the HST, with the new model fitted with “stealth” head- and tail-lights, a contrasting black roof, and black vents, grille, bezels and badging. The interior is decked out with black leather, headlining and trim pieces.

There’s also a dark satin finish for the standard 21-inch alloy wheels; owners can specify larger 22-inch alloy wheels.

The HST has been tuned for on-road performance, with a tighter suspension setup, larger 20-inch disc brakes and a single-range automatic transmission.

For the rest of the Range Rover Sport lineup, the 2016 model year brings a number of detail improvements. For example, all models fitted with the Terrain Response 2 system also include Terrain Progress Control, SDV8-powered cars are fitted with automatic engine start/stop as standard, and all variants will make ingress and egress easier by lowering themselves automatically whenever a door is opened.

Hands-free tailgate operation is now standard fit on all trim levels HSE and above, while buyers can now specify a dealer-fit carbonfibre trim pack.

The 2016 Range Rover Sport lineup, including the HST variant, will go on sale locally from the fourth quarter of 2015. Prices and exact specs will be announced closer to the car’s on-sale date.
