Our first international drive of the all-new Fiat 500X has given us an early impression of how the baby crossover will be specified when it arrives in Australian showrooms later this year.
While Fiat Chrysler Australia is yet to finalise every detail of its 500X range, the preliminary specifications announced at the carâs international launch give a good idea of how the local line-up will shape up.
Australiaâs Fiat 500X line-up will feature four trim levels: Pop, Pop Star, Lounge, and Cross Plus. The Cross Plus is the only variant in the range to send power to all four wheels and offer an enhanced ramp-over angle to give it some off-road credibility. The other three are driven solely by the front wheels, while all share their basic architecture with the forthcoming, pint-sized Jeep Renegade.
Two tunes of a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine are available along with three transmissions, depending on the trim level selected.
The entry-level Pop and second-tier Pop Star get the low-power tune that produces 103kW at 5000rpm and 230Nm at 1750rpm. It pairs with six-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions (Pop Star is auto only) and can launch the 500X from 0-100km/h in 9.8 seconds.
The Lounge and Cross Plus get slightly more power and torque, producing 125kW at 5500rpm and 250Nm at 2500rpm. Both are available exclusively with a nine-speed automatic transmission and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds.
Additional preliminary specification details can be seen in the model-by-model breakdown below, with highlights including 18-inch alloy wheels, Beats audio system, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen.
Fiat hasnât revealed pricing information at this stage, but told us to âexpect the pricing spread to sit in the middle of its competitive setâ, suggesting the range will fall between $20,000 and $35,000 before on-road costs.
