Pictures of the 2016 Ford Focus RS have leaked onto the internet ahead of the hot-hatchâs official unveiling tonight.
The images confirm a first-time five-door body style and show a slightly less extroverted approach to the Focus RSâs styling after the rally-car-inspired second-generation version that sold locally in limited numbers and for a $59,990 price tag.
Thereâs still a purposeful look for what will again be the fastest Ford Focus around, and a model that will be sold in more markets than before to take on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R and Subaru WRX STI.
The new Ford Focus RS again features a prominent roof spoiler and large dual tail-pipes protruding from a diffuser-style lower rear bumper.
Wheel-arch flaring is less pronounced compared with the previous RS, though theyâre filled out appropriately with large alloy wheels wrapped in sportily thin rubber.
Up front, the bonnet ditches the old modelâs dual bonnet vents for a power bulge. The trapezoidal grille sits higher, above a large central air intake.
Under that bonnet, we know the Ford Focus RS borrows a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the new Ford Mustang.
The bigger news is that CarAdvice sources say the Focus RS will switch from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive for the first time.
CarAdvice will publish all the official images and details on the new Ford Focus RS when they are released at 12.30am Wednesday morning (AET).
