English supercar and hypercar manufacturer, McLaren, will end its alphanumeric naming convention when it releases a new V8-powered entry-level model in 2015.
Dubbed the McLaren Sport Series, the new car, aimed squarely at the Porsche 911 and recently released Mercedes-AMG GT, will feature a carbonfibre chassis and mid-mounted V8 engine.
McLaren's current "entry" model " the 650S
Previously known (and spied) as the P13, the Sport Series will sit below the 478kW/678Nm 650S in the car makerâs road-car line-up and is rumoured to feature a detuned version of its bigger brotherâs twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 " possibly with around 335kW.
McLaren have launched a strange teaser campaign that will show a story in 13 parts, featuring game-changing (or in their words, "black swan") moments from around the world.
Expect to see the McLaren Sport Series unveiled in the second quarter of next year.
