2015 LDV V80 : Chinese van range relaunches from $29,990 driveaway

The LDV V80 van range has been relaunched in Australia with a sub-$30,000 starting price and a new automatic transmission option.

Distribution of LDV a division of China’s Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) € is now the responsibility of major independent vehicle importer, Ateco Automotive. The Sydney-based importer took over the rights in July from White Motor Corporation, which began selling the V80 at the beginning of 2013.

The relaunched range now features three body styles of the LDV V80: short-wheelbase with low roof from $29,990 driveaway, long-wheelbase with mid roof from $34,990 driveaway, and long-wheelbase with high roof from $36,990 driveaway.

The SWB variant is $810 cheaper than before, while both LWB variants are now $3000 less than they were under the previous distributor.

All three come standard with a five-speed manual transmission and for the first time can now be ordered with a six-speed automated manual gearbox for an extra $2000.

As before, the LDV V80 range is powered by a 100kW/330Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine produced by VM Motori. All body styles use 8.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle.

All are identically equipped, coming standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, rear sensors, manual air conditioning, cruise control, eight-way adjustable driver'€™s seat, dual passenger bench seat, dual sliding side doors and 180-degree-opening rear barn doors.

The SWB measures 4950mm long and 2132mm tall, has a 2550mm cargo area length, 1160kg payload and a 6.4m3 cargo volume.

The LWB measures 5700mm long, has a 3300mm cargo area length and a 1480kg payload. The mid roof version is 2345mm tall and has a cargo volume of 10.4m3, while the high roof version is 2552mm tall and has a cargo volume of 11.6m3.

Safety features include ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution brake assist and two front airbags (driver and passenger), though is not available with electronic stability control or additional airbags. It has not been crash tested by ANCAP or an equivalent overseas safety body.

The LDV V80 is covered by a three-year/100,000km warranty and free roadside assistance for the life of the warranty.
