Land Rover appears to be working on an even more powerful and exclusive version of its luxury Range Rover SUV, as these images reveal.
Captured by CarAdvice's spy photographers entering Jaguar Land Rover's test facility at the Nurburgring in Germany, the test vehicle wears plastic camouflage on its bonnet, door, side, tailgate and rear bumper panels.
The black and white wrap doesnât appear to hide anything new, though our attention is fixed on the prototypeâs quad exhaust outlets, which do not feature on any current Range Rover variant, not even the flagship $338,200 LWB Autobiography Black.
The only model in the brandâs line-up with quad pipes is the newly released Range Rover Sport SVR, which gets the highest 404kW/680Nm tune of JLR's supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, also found in Jaguar's F-Type R, XFR-S, XKR-S and XJR models.
Itâs believed this tune of the engine is nestled beneath the spied car's long, clamshell bonnet, which would give the vehicle " potentially dubbed Range Rover LWB SVR " a boost of 29kW and 55Nm over the V8âs standard 375kW/625Nm output.
The extra power and torque should help launch the circa-2400kg, 5.2-metre-long SUV from 0-100km/h in a little over five seconds. The Autobiography Black sets the current benchmark at 5.4 seconds.
A Range Rover LWB SVR variant would give the British luxury SUV brand a rival for the upcoming Bentley SUV, which is set to be available with V8 plug-in hybrid and 12-cylinder powertrains with between 400kW and 500kW from 2016.
Earlier this month, Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said the company was working on flagship variants for every model in its range, and said he believed there was potential for âsporty versions of every model as well.
