The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS nameplate has returned to the sports coupe lineup for the first time in three years, with the latest 991-generation GTS again squeezing itself in between the 911 Carrera S and 911 Turbos, in a quartet of rear- or all-wheel drive and coupe or cabriolet versions.
A tweaked version of the existing 3.8-litre flat six-cylinder non-turbocharged engine now produces 316kW, up 19kW on the Carrera S, while torque isnât yet disclosed. The 0-100km/h sprint is lowered to just 4.0 seconds for the Carrera GTS coupe with PDK automatic " only a half-second slower than a 911 Turbo " or 4.2 seconds for the Carrera GTS cabriolet.
Swap to the coupe manual, and the top speed is 306km/h, the highest of the quartet of models, though all Porsche 911 Carrera GTS variants will shoot beyond 300km/h.
The GTS is on the outside identified by matte-black 20-inch alloys with centre wheel locks, new bumper trim, and smoked bi-xenon headlight covers to match the black trim strips on the rear intake screen and black chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes. Even the badging is black.
Inside, now-trademark GTS features include leather and Alcantara-trimmed sports seats with Alcantara also used on the centre console and steering wheel.
Dynamic cornering lights, two-stage sports exhaust, a Sport Chrono package with launch control and adaptive dampers tagged Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) are all included.
Available in Australia from February, the four-tier Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will comprise $268,700 coupe, $289,700 cabriolet, and for the all-wheel drive versions of those variants, $284,100 and $305,300 respectively " all of which are about $13K more expensive than the equivalent Carrera S.
Each price is for the seven-speed manual version, with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic asking another $7390 in each case.
