Kia Pro_cee’d GT launches from $29,990

The highly anticipated Kia Pro_cee’d GT sports hatch has landed in Australia priced from $29,990.

The two-tier range includes an entry-level GT and range-topping Pro_cee’d GT Tech ($33,490), which share the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating 150kW of power at 6000rpm and 265Nm of torque from 1750-4500rpm.

Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the Pro_cee’d GT claims a 7.7-second 0-100km/h sprint and a top speed of 230km/h.

Kia also claims the GT’s combined fuel consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres on standard 91 RON unleaded fuel, with average CO2 emissions of 171 grams per kilometre.

The all-new model becomes the second turbocharged petrol model to be offered by Kia in Australia, following the recent introduction of the Cerato Koup Turbo ($27,990).

Kia says the Slovakian-built GT shares the Koup’s front-engine and front-wheel drive layout, but brings more performance-based technology, such as multi-link rear suspension with local tuning and Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres.

There’s also motor-driven electric steering across the range, which has also been tuned for Australian conditions.

Sporting bold new styling from the Kia Cee’d family already sold in Europe, the Pro_cee’d GT introduces a lower, wider bumper and air dam, as well as a wide central lower air intake that supplies air to the turbocharged engine.

Sitting either side are high-gloss black inserts housing the GT’s unique ‘ice-cube’ LED daytime running light clusters.

The high-gloss black theme continues on the graphite chrome-framed radiator grille with Kia’s family ‘tiger-nose’ outline, which includes a ‘GT’ badge on the mesh pattern.

From the rear, the sporty look continues with a black diffuser section separating dual sports exhaust pipes. The rear number plate rests on more high-gloss black, and there are vertical reversing lights and reflectors, and LED combination lamps that Kia says provide a unique signature at night.

The side profile is even more telling, with the Pro_cee’d GT sitting on unique 18-inch alloy wheels encased by aggressive side sill mouldings.

It’s also gets a substantial brake package, comprising red brake calipers on 300mm discs at the front and 262mm at the rear.

The GT’s performance-skewed exterior is reflected in the cockpit with heavily bolstered Recaro sports buckets for the driver and front passenger. Electrically adjustable lumbar support is fitted to both seats, while the trim is part leather with suede inserts.

There’s also red contrast stitching on the seats, gear shifter, steering wheel and door trims, and there are alloy sports pedals with non-slip inserts.

The Pro-cee’d GT’s three-dial instrument layout is enhanced by TFT LCD central display, which allows the driver to switch between an analogue or digital speedometer display (with added torque and boost gauges) via a button on the steering wheel.

Additional equipment on the entry-level GT variant includes dual-zone climate control, auto headlights and rain-sensing wipers, electric folding and heated door mirrors with puddle lights, cornering lights, reverse parking sensors and a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth phone and music streaming.

The GT Tech grade adds active HID headlamps, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start and door handle lighting, privacy glass and luggage net.

In addition to six airbags, the GT’s safety specification includes electronic stability control with vehicle stability management, hill-start assist, ABS with brakeforce distribution and brake assist plus two Isofix child seat mounts.

The Kia Pro_cee’d GT range is available in four exterior colours: solid Track Red, premium Delux White, Machine Silver and Black Pearl, with premium paint a $595 option.
