David Brown Automotive Speedback : Modern-day DB9 revealed

England’s newest sports car maker has burst onto the scene with a model that pays homage to one of the country'€™s most iconic: meet the David Brown Automotive Speedback, inspired by the Aston Martin DB5.

While it looks like the famous 1960s Bond car, the Speedback is an entirely modern-day creation.
It’s based on the platform of another British favourite, the soon-to-be-discontinued Jaguar XKR, and employs that brand'€™s high-performance supercharged 5.0-litre V8, which David Brown Automotive says can be prepared with “any level of tuning or engine enhancements'€.

The result of just 18 months of design and development, the Speedback was penned by David Brown Automotive chief designer Alan Mobberley and has been engineered and hand-built in Coventry using traditional British materials and craftsmanship.

Company founder and CEO David Brown €" no relation to Aston’s long-serving boss of the same name, after whom the DB series of models was named €" says the Speedback meets the company’s desire of creating a car combining classic GT styling with modern mechanicals and reliability.
'€œThe launch of Speedback is the realisation of a dream for me, and is the result of skilful and dedicated work by a team of highly talented designers, engineers and craftsmen,'€ Brown said.
"This car will appeal to anybody who desires a truly individual sports car, which can boast a fine British pedigree and which will only be produced in limited numbers, thus ensuring the kind of exclusivity associated with Britain’s once proud heritage of traditional, high-quality, automotive coach building."

Following its initial unveiling at an exclusive media preview in London overnight, the David Brown Automotive Speedback will make its public debut at Top Marques Monaco in April.
