Hyundai Veloster Turbo: 270kW SEMA concept revealed

A 270kW nitrous-assisted Hyundai Veloster Turbo has been revealed ahead of its in-metal debut at next month’s SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas.

Claimed to be the most powerful street-focused Hyundai Veloster Turbo ever, yet “designed with affordable performance in mind”, the show car is the result of collaboration between the Korean car maker and Fox Marketing.

Based on the standard turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder powerplant, the Fox Marketing Veloster Turbo has been loaded with performance parts to see power rise from 150kW to 276kW.

Headlined by a new BorgWarner turbocharger and a Nitrous Express N-Tercooler sprayer, further under-bonnet modifications include a new stainless steel turbo manifold, aluminium cold air intake and a front-mounted intercooler. An AEM water/methanol injection system and a retuned engine control unit (ECU) round out the list.

Aiding vehicle dynamics are a strut brace, chassis bracing, 35-way adjustable coil-overs and six-piston front calipers with 345mm discs and carbonfibre ducting.

Fox Marketing has ensured the Veloster’s cabin looks the part too, with Street Pro LE reclinable racing seats joining Takata four-point harnesses and custom Takata rear seats.

Tying the package together â€" and making it SEMA appropriate â€" is a pumped exterior comprising a hand-mixed Waterborne SkyAqua Pearl paint colour, custom front and rear bumpers, a new front lip spoiler and Hyundai Genesis fog lights.

The one-off Hyundai Veloster Turbo will take its place alongside the Hyundai Legato coupe concept, Veloster Turbo ‘Yellowcake’, JP Edition Genesis coupe, and the 746kW Bisimoto Engineering Genesis coupe at the 2013 SEMA show from November 5.
