Production of the all-new Honda NSX will begin in 2015 at a new $70.8 million performance manufacturing centre in the US.
The new Ohio-based facility â" located close to where the NSX is being engineered â" will exclusively assemble the new Honda NSX while its hybrid powertrain will be built at Hondaâs Ohio engine plant in Anna.
Badged as a Honda in Europe and an Acura in the US, the new NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injection V6 engine mated to Hondaâs three-motor high-performance Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system and an all-new dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Honda R&D Americas chief engineer Ted Klaus said the new performance manufacturing centre in Ohio would be key to the NSXâs global success.
âWe have a very clear understanding of the high customer expectations luxury buyers around the world have for a supercar, and our challenge is to exceed them and create new value for the customer,â Klaus said.
The new 17,094-square metre site â" which will become Hondaâs third car plant in Ohio â" will carry on from the Takanezawa and Suzuka plants in Japan that produced the original NSX from 1990-2004 and 2004-2005 respectively.
The latest iteration of the Honda NSX concept was seen at this yearâs Detroit auto show in January, revealing a new interior designed around âthe synergy between man and machineâ.
