Subaru WRX concept leaked

Images claiming to uncover the design of the Subaru WRX concept have leaked online ahead of the highly anticipated sports car’s unveiling at the 2013 New York auto show.

First seen on French website Blog Automobile, the unverified images purportedly reveal the exterior design of the new Subaru concept, giving us our first realistic impression of what to expect from the production Subaru WRX that’s set to materialise next year.

Sharing styling cues with the current Subaru Liberty and BRZ, as well as the recently revealed Viziv concept, the Subaru WRX concept is an imposing figure, sporting sinister headlights, a traditional gaping bonnet scoop, muscular wheels arches and an aggressive rear diffuser with quad exhaust outlets.

As promised by Subaru, the sleek WRX sedan represents a dramatic departure in design from the Impreza small car on which the production car will be based, boasting â€" according to the French website â€" LED headlights and tail-lights, 20-inch alloy wheels and bright yellow six-piston brake calipers.

Numerous reports suggest the WRX will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine producing up to 224kW of power, while rumours have long linked the new WRX with some form of all-wheel-drive hybrid propulsion system.

More details of the Subaru WRX concept will be revealed following its unveiling at tomorrow’s New York motor show.
