Infiniti planning 400kW performance model, confirms small-car production

Plans for an upcoming Infiniti performance flagship model with more than 400kW have been revealed on the Japanese luxury car maker’s official Facebook page, as production of the brand’s first compact model has also been confirmed for 2015.

In a letter from Infiniti president Johan de Nysschen to the brand’s ‘loved dearly’ fans explaining its naming structure change for its passenger cars and SUVs, de Nysschen mentions a new high-tech performance flagship for the Infiniti M range featuring a 410kW-plus V6 powerplant with charged induction.

Designed to sit above the 313kW/565Nm 5.6-litre V8-powered Infiniti M56 and 246kW/366Nm 3.7-litre V6-powered M37, the new M flagship model promises to use advanced engine technology to improve engine size, weight and fuel efficiency while being more powerful to ensure exhilarating performance.

Infiniti Etherea concept

The luxury marque has also today confirmed that production of an all-new premium entry Infiniti compact model â€" likely to take inspiration from the Infiniti Etherea concept (pictured above) unveiled at the 2011 Geneva motor show â€" is set to begin in 2015 at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK.

Infiniti launched locally in September with an initial two-car line-up of the FX SUV and M sedan, before adding the Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible earlier this month.
