Volkswagen Golf GTE Performance concept: 200kW PHEV debuts at Wörthersee

The Volkswagen Golf GTE Performance concept has been revealed this week at the company’s annual Wörthersee gathering, packing 200kW of power from its upgraded plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain.
Finished in white with a contrasting black roof and blue body accents, the GTE Performance concept takes on a similar aesthetic to the GTI 40 Years special edition, thanks to its larger rear spoiler and aggressive diffuser with dual tailpipes, while the 19-inch black Pretoria alloy wheels have been borrowed from the flagship Golf R.
While no images of the interior have surfaced yet, the interior gets special leather sports seats and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a blue accent at the 12 o’clock position.

The GTE’s plug-in hybrid system has also received a comprehensive upgrade, with power and torque rising from the standard car’s 150kW of power and 350Nm of torque, to a far more substantial 200kW of power and 450Nm of torque.
Performance figures are yet to be released, as are the full details of what Volkswagen’s team did to achieve those higher outputs.
The concept has, however, been fitted with bigger brakes and new calipers to provide better stopping power, with the calipers finished in a bright GTE Blue.

It’s the second show car to be revealed this week from the Wörthersee event, joining the Golf GTI First Decade concept – complete with a 300kW engine upgrade thanks to the addition of a 48V electric motor, all-wheel drive, and bright blue highlights inside and out. You can read our coverage here.
