Chinese-Israeli carmaker Qoros will soon reveal the latest offering in its China- and Europe-focused range, a new SUV believed to be called Qoros 5.
The new mid-sized SUV will join the company’s introductory range, the 3 line, which debuted in small sedan, hatch and SUV forms last year.
A new set of spy photos obtained by website CarNewsChina has delivered a first look at the new SUV without camouflage, revealing a profile perhaps inspired by the Kia Sportage and a snout that takes its cues from the Range Rover Evoque (if not the copycat LandWind X7).
The 5’s overall styling is in-line with the existing 3 range, although its front-end look represents a minor evolution of the brand’s design language.
A single view of the interior reveals a predictably near-premium design, with a conventional minimalist look running through the dash, where a large centre display and air-conditioning control forms the main standout feature.
Official details on the new model are still to be released, although reports suggest an overall length of around 4585mm â€" making it around 500mm longer than a Volkswagen Tiguan, with the additional length likely accommodating the Chinese market’s preference for extensive rear legroom.
Power is expected to be provided by a 115kW 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, matched to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. A 134kW 1.8-litre turbo unit has also been reported overseas.
For now, Qoros is focused largely on the Chinese market, although it has made clear its intentions to launch into Europe. For now, only Slovakia hosts a European Qoros dealership.
The company is likewise focused on a left-hand drive plan for the foreseeable future, which means that an Australian launch will not occur anytime soon.
