2016 Suzuki S-Cross update spied

The Suzuki S-Cross is nearing that time in its life-cycle when it will get the de rigeur mid-life update. Here are a few early images of this 2016 Series II model, captured by our spy photographers.

Suzuki’s small crossover will in all likelihood get the requisite styling tweaks to the headlights, grille and (seemingly more sporty) lower bumpers â€" the ample cladding is a give-away, given Suzuki clearly has something to hide â€" and the tail-lights.

More interesting are the changes inside the cabin, with the infotainment system from the new design-focused and funky Vitara â€" which shares the S-Cross’ platform and engines â€" transplanted.

This large touchscreen, with Suzuki’s new quadrant-style infotainment system, should house the very latest in connectivity, including Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink and feasibly Android Auto.

The S-Cross is marketed as the less edgy crossover option in Suzuki’s range, alongside the more design-focused and youth-oriented Vitara, which launches in Australia in a few weeks.

Suzuki will from that point have three small SUVs (the Jimny being the third), and hopes to be a market leader in this booming segment.

Changes under the skin are less clear. It’s not yet known if the 2016 S-Cross will retain the current 86kW/156Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine, or if it will launch late enough to potentially get an example of the company’s long-awaited new turbo-petrol engine range.

With a tare mass as low as just 1145kg, the S-Cross has always belied its meagre outputs with its low weight for the class.

We’ll keep you posted. Meantime, read our S-Cross reviews here.

  1. Previously, consumers are often on a lookout for high performance and beautiful physicality when it comes to the hunt for a vehicle. However, today amidst advancing technology, they are more interested in add-ons which are what attract them the most. Hence, automakers are inclining toward that direction in order to stay on top of competition.
