The design prototype of the Lyons LM2 Streamliner supercar has finally made its debut at the 2015 New York auto show, well after the showâs press days had concluded.
At the companyâs press conference last week, company founder and CEO, Kevin W. Lyons, stood at a lectern in front of a blank piece of carpet, on top of which was meant to be a prototype of the LM2 Streamliner.
According to Lyons, the concept car wasnât at the press conference because it âwas damaged a little bitâ and ânot exactly up to my standardâ; as such the car was âin the body shopâ being fixed.
The car finally was finally rolled into the Javits Center on New York Cityâs west side on Monday morning, US time. The company posted a photo (below) of the prototype vehicle to the companyâs Facebook page, claiming that âthe most anticipated car at New York International auto is on display now out performing all other cars in popularityâ.
The LM2 Streamliner draws on Lyonsâ experience in drag racing. Beneath its carbonfibre body, and mounted behind the passenger compartment, is a 8.2-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from Nelson Racing.
Said to spin to 9200rpm, the engine delivers 1268kW (1700hp) of power and 2183Nm of torque to all four wheels via a seven-speed sequential transmission from Underground Racing.
In computer simulations, the 1406kg LM2 Streamliner can do 0-96km/h (60mph) in 2.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 467km/h.
Addressing concerns about LM2 Streamlinerâs cooling properties, Lyons said that the nine-man company âwent through painstaking R&D to hideâ all of the carâs 21 vents. He added: âThe whole idea behind the Streamliner was to streamline it. You canât have wings and stuff all over, thatâs really the premise behind this.â
Lyons claims that the New York-based company will begin producing the LM2 Streamliner later this year, with prices beginning at US$1.5 million ($1.96 million). As the LM2 Streamliner is âbespoke, custom madeâ, the company âabsolutely canâ build it in right-hand drive if needs be.
A later SSS âNurburgring killerâ version with 1491kW (2000hp) will set buyers back US$1.9 million ($2.49 million).
At the press conference, Lyons admitted the company only had âpotential ordersâ and âpeople who are highly interestedâ in the vehicle. He was confident these would be translated into solid orders with the unveiling of the concept car.
