Chevrolet Spark teased ahead of New York, Seoul reveal

The next-generation Chevrolet Spark has been teased ahead of its official debut at the New York and Seoul motor shows.

Although framed by shadow and darkness, the GM-issued teaser image confirms the authenticity of the undisguised photos that Car Advice published at the beginning of February. The new Spark will debut during simultaneous events on April 2 â€" April 3 Australian time â€" held during the New York and Seoul motor shows.

The new Spark is closely related to the Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva twins that were recently launched in Europe. While the three cars sit on the same platform and, seemingly, share the same body structure, the European and Chevy versions do differ stylistically.

Whereas the Opel/Vauxhall model opts for softer details, including rounded headlights, the Chevrolet iteration has sharper character lines.

The Chevy Spark will also feature a version of the company’s two-port chrome-ringed grille setup. Additionally, the Spark continues on with rear door handles that are disguised as a part of the window graphics.

Compared to the model presently in showrooms, the new Spark will far more conservatively styled, with the current car’s oversized headlights traded in for a more conventional, and narrower, set of lights.

As part of Holden’s ambitious plan to launch 24 new models by 2020 and reclaim the number one sales crown from Toyota, the next-generation Spark will be sold in Australia as the Holden Barina Spark from 2016.
