Renault Kadjar will be the name used for the French brandâs first C-segment SUV, which will be unveiled in full on February 2, 2015.
Believed to be a spin-off model of the Nissan Qashqai, the new Renault Kadjar has been spied in disguise by CarAdviceâs overseas snappers from the outside, while weâve also see interior images of the new small SUV.
A release from Renault suggests the Kadjar name will help the brand to âcontinue its offensive in the crossover marketâ, and that it will tease the new model on social media using #kadjar.
If youâre curious what Kadjar means, an explanation has been offered by the French marque: âThe name KADJAR is built around KAD- and â"JAR. KAD- is inspired by âquadâ representing a go-anywhere four wheel vehicle and â"JAR recalls the French words âagileâ and âjaillirâ representing agility and suddenly emerging from somewhere.
âThe sound and spelling of the name have an exotic feel which suggests adventure and discovering new horizons,â the statement read.
The new model is set to fill the gap between the companyâs soon-to-be-released (in Australia) Captur and the larger Koleos SUV. A replacement for the latter, based on the new-generation Nissan X-Trail, will likely be revealed later this year.
Curiously, Renault Australia has previously suggested it has ruled out this model for local sale, with managing director Justin Hocevar suggesting the brand will instead focus on getting the Captur off to a good start and leave enough space for the larger SUV model to slot in once Koleos finishes its lengthy tenure.
Stay tuned for more on the Renault Kadjar, which will make its international motor show debut at the Geneva show in March.
