Porsche recalls Boxster, Cayman and 911

Porsche is recalling 4428 sports cars worldwide over a lock bracket problem.

The recall affects just 56 vehicles already registered in Australia, with 27 Boxster and Cayman models and a further 29 examples of the 911 affected by the recall. Another 20 vehicles â€" eight Boxster/Cayman models and a dozen 911s â€" are also affected, though those vehicles are yet to be delivered to their new owners.

Porsche Cars Australia has advised that the action is a “precautionary measure”, whereby the German company will replace the lock bracket on the front storage trunk of the car.

Porsche said it is “not possible to guarantee that the bracket meets the specification in the long term”, and it is believed the latch could possibly allow the lid to pop up unintentionally. The problem was found during in-house quality checks, the company says.

Porsche says it is contacting all affected owners, who will be asked to see their dealership for a repair. The fix takes 30 minutes, at no cost to owners.
