Ford Falcon XR8 unveiled in Melbourne

The last-ever Ford Falcon XR8 has been officially unveiled at an event in Melbourne, ahead of the historic car'€™s December 1 on-sale date.

Priced from $52,490 ($54,690 auto), the FG X Ford Falcon XR8 is the first V8-powered XR model since 2010.

And with the help of a 335kW/570Nm supercharged 5.0-litre Boss V8 €" sourced from the $76,990 limited edition FPV GT RSPEC €" the new XR8 comfortably sits atop the final Falcon range.

Up front the flagship Falcon is highlighted by its new nose, slim XR-stamped headlights, W-shaped daytime running lights and, of course, a revised XR8 badge.

Tucked up behind 19-inch wheels €" measuring nine-inches at the rear €" are four-piston Brembo brakes and a suspension set up again borrowed from the high-performance GT RSPEC.

At the back are split LED tail-lights, a quad-tipped exhaust system, a rear spoiler and a limited slip differential.

Inside, there are new sports seats with perforated leather trim, XR-stamped alloy sill plates, sports pedals and a sports steering wheel.

Lifting interior quality and specification further, however, is the new Falcon'€™s eight-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and Ford’s voice controlled SYNC2 infotainment system.

Front and rear parking sensors are also standard, along with rain sensing wipers, dual zone climate control and a reversing camera.

Available in eight colours €" Emperor; Kinetic (pictured); Lightning Strike; Silhouette; Smoke; Vanish; Winter White; and Ford’s new Victory Gold €" Ford will be hoping the new Falcon XR8 impresses enough to do its iconic nameplate justice.
