2015 Audi A1 : Facelifted model spied hot-weather testing

The Audi A1 is set for a facelift in late 2014 or early 2015, and these new spy images show there will be a range of cosmetic changes for the brand’s smallest model.

Revised headlight inlays with sharper LED daytime running lamps that look similar to some versions seen on Seat models will be offered, while the grille appears slightly more pronounced, too. The lower front bumper is expected to see the addition of rectangular fog lights and the bar itself appears to feature minor design changes that will give it a broader look.

The rear will also introduce changes, albeit minor ones that will mainly concern the finishes of the LED tail-lights. New wheel designs are likely, and Audi is set to retain the twin paint finish option that makes it possible for a different tone to be applied from the window-line up.

No interior images have been made available at this time, though it is expected there will be some minor design changes and possibly revamped technology in the form of a renewed media interface with online capability through the Audi Connect system.

There’s no news yet on the updated Audi A1′s line-up, though it is likely that the 1.2-litre engine will see similar power increases to the facelifted Volkswagen Polo, while 1.4-litre petrol models may also see power and efficiency tweaks. There’s no word if the brand will consider adding the 1.4-litre three-cylinder turbo diesel engine from its parent brand, either.

As is currently the case, no three-door version will be seen in Australia, with only the five-door Sportback available.

Audi Australia senior product communications executive Shaun Cleary couldn’t give much away about the updated model, but he did indicate the car should be on sale locally in 2015.

We’d expect the entry price of the new A1 could drop below that of the current model, which starts at $26,500, in a bid from the German brand to attract customers from the recently repositioned Mini Cooper which now kicks off at the same price.
