Ssangyong X100 medium SUV confirmed for 2015 – report

A new Ssangyong SUV based on the stylish Ssangyong XLV concept has reportedly been confirmed for a 2015 launch.

The new Ssangyong X100 â€" as it is said to be known â€" will be launched based on a new platform that will see the model share engines with Indian parent company Mahindra and Mahindra. A pair of new, smaller-output turbocharged engines are expected, both 1.6 litres in capacity but one running on diesel and the other on petrol.

The X100 is expected to be offered with five or seven seats, the latter version of which is expected to be the model sold in most international markets such as Australia. CarAdvice has contacted Ssangyong’s local distributor Ateco Automotive for comment.

The news comes following a statement released by the company’s assembly-line contractor in Sri Lanka, Micro Cars Ltd, which posited that a new type of SUV will be built in that country next year.

“We will strive to improve quality of the products and look forward to the successful launching of X100, the new type of SUV, by 2015 in Sri Lanka,” said Lawrence Perera, CEO of Ssangyong Micro Cars Ltd.
